Akita Exercise

As Akitas are naturally active large dogs, they need plenty of exercises, especially outdoor activities. When doing the exercises, this dog prefers fresh and cooler air because of the thick coats it has. 

Hiking with Akita is highly recommended, they are active and love being outdoor. Before bringing them for a hike, you may need to prepare and make sure they are fit enough. Here is the tips for hiking with dog that may help you in the preparation.

You may find this dog behavior pretty well if it gets to do proper amount of daily exercises. Perhaps an hour or more of exercise per day will be sufficient.

Akitas like to play fetch and romp. Be sure that there are large yard for them to run around. Akitas are hunters, they like to chase and hunt small animals and birds that they happen to see outdoor.

A fenced yard is important for akita to be healthy. The fenced yard will keep them stay safe, and give them the freedom to run around freely. If there’s a person is within the fenced yard, akita may become aggressive as it may think that somebody has trespassed their territory.

Like any other dogs, Akita does not like extreme weather. Bring them in when the weather is too hot or rain even they prefer to be outdoor most of the time. Akita is a large dog; an apartment might not be suitable for them as lack of space. A house is proven to be more comfortable for them as it provide plenty of space. They prefer to have a specific area to sleep. You may provide them a sleeping area using a crate, which is highly recommended by most breeders. Keep in mind that the dog likes to stay with family when at night. Try to keep him inside the house.

During the early age of Akita puppies, you should teach them how to walk properly on a leash. This can be a great help as they will be able to get more exercise if walking well on a leash and listen to your simple commands. Akitas are smart enough to picking up obedience training fast. During playing time with your Akita, try to avoid games that use force such as tug-of-war because these find of exercises may cultivate the negative behaviors and confuse them. These exercise should be avoided as when they are fully grown up, they can turn aggressive.

While taking your dog to exercises such as walking in park, it is recommended to keep your dog on leash all the time. This can be a great headache if your Akitas are behaving aggressively towards other dogs or animals that they don’t know. Make sure you supervisor closely on them when taking them out.

On the other hand, we should not keep Akita at home most of the time. They prefer plenty of exercises. They can be depressed if they always stay at home. Try to spare some times to jog or walk with your Akita in the park or garden. This can help you to have better bonding and relationship with him. Keep the exercises as daily routine and they will love it.
